One of the highlights of the whole trip was stepping up to the official Sonny Angel & Smiski store, its soft pink facade glowing against the night sky. Standing outside the home of the characters we love — in the country where it all began — was a real pinch-me moment. If you are ever in Japan, it is an absolute must-visit for any collector.
All aboard the shinkansen
Of course our little Sonny Angel got the window seat. Perched on the ledge of the bullet train — pumpkin hat and all — he watched the Japanese countryside blur past at nearly 200 miles per hour. (Yes, we travel with our collectibles. No, we are not sorry.)
A glimpse of Mount Fuji
Then, right on cue, Mount Fuji appeared on the horizon — snow-capped and framed by golden sunset clouds. There is something magical about catching Japan’s most famous mountain from a moving train, a reminder of why this country inspires so much of the art and design we love.
A treat on the way!
No trip is complete without snacks. We worked our way through pillowy soft serve in a crisp cone and the cutest pig-shaped sweet we have ever taken a bite of. Even the food in Japan seems designed to make you smile.
